Weather McNabb • Cubicle Zombie

Sometime in 2012 Weather contacted me about creating images to go with a song she had produced and sang on. Life got in the way and in 2018 Weather got ahold of me to let me know her 1 song turned into a 5 song EP and she was ready to work with me to create images that would go along with that EP.

Awesome.

Each song to her 5 song EP would come with a visual that we would create. In emails we talked about the songs, what they are about and what kind of visual would go along. On the day of the shoot Weather brought in some props and we got to work.

First she wanted a head shot that she could use for promotion and her website.

Then we took things song by song; trying to find clean ways to represent each track that also fell into the color scheme that Weather wanted to use for the EP. Her red and black clothing combination was to be felt throughout the whole EP and all the images.

Weather brought everything; the shirt, the ring, the coffee cup and the gulp! skeleton arm!

We used a clear piece of plexi to put the watch and the broken shards on suspended the plexi above some black paper on the floor. We wanted a feeling of something falling or floating in the air.

For the image for the song “User Error” we wanted to reflect the lyrics in a pair of glasses. We brought the lyrics up on a laptop, and then with the help of a c-stand knuckle we suspended the glasses in the air, and aimed them so that they picked up the words on the laptop screen. A red gel with a grid on it pinpointed the red light so that it highlighted a small section of the glasses on the right side. It was important to keep that red in all the images we did as part of the EP

A statue that Weather has had for a very long time. I remember when communicating with her back in 2012 her emailing me images of this statute, which she wanted involved with the album art. It was nice to finally be able to photograph this piece some five years later. This also served as the back art for the EP.

I really enjoyed making these images with Weather for her EP. It gave us a chance to brainstorm and play around a little bit and she has told me these images were exactly what she wanted and fit the idea behind her EP project perfectly.

She’s already writing new songs and has told me we will be working together soon.

Visit Weather’s website and track down the songs for her EP. Tell her I say hello!
